Nathan Bassett was born in May or Nov. 1667. He resided at Sandwich and Falmouth, Mass then moved to C. on Marthas Vineyard about 1694. He was a Blacksmith and was called "gentleman". He was a man of large influence and a benefactor of the church of C. donating the building site on Abel's Hill in 1724.
His will was dated Jan. 31,1740 was proved Jan. 29,1743 and the inventory of his estate showed property valued at £256-18-8. In about 1690 he married Mary Huckins, daughter of John and Hope (Chipman) Huckins.9 |

| Mary Huckins, daughter of John and Hope (Chipman) Huckins was born April 3,1673 and died Nov. 1743. She was a woman of strong intellect and deep religious character and left a manuscript account of her experiences for her children. She and her husband made their wills on the same day and died within eight days of each other. They had eleven children.9 |
