He was a silk dyer by trade. One of the original settlers of Newbury, Mass. (by 1635 ?) and a leading citizen. He was made Ensign in 1639, Lieutenant of Massachusetts Provincial Forces in 1642, was refered to as "Capt." and moved to Boston Mass. in 1650.
He married 1st. about 1612, in England Sarah Dole, daughter of William and Joan (Hale) Dole and G'dau. of Richard (---1609) and Dorothy Dole. She died Jan.18,1663 at Boston, Mass. and was the mother of all his children. He married 2nd Mrs Sarah (Jurdaine) Hill, widow of Wm Hill and daughter of Ignatius Jurdaine (1599-1671) of Exeter, England. |
