He was a wagon-maker and is said to have been wounded in the War of 1812.
In the census of 1800 John Hazen is reported in Peters township, Washington County, Pa. with two boys under ten in his family; in the census of 1810, at North Sewickley with one boy and four girls under ten and one boy between ten and sixteen.
On Feb. 28,1797 Isaac Charles and wife Mary of Allegheny Co. Pa. for £45 conveyed to John Hazen of Allegheny Co. part of the James Blackstone patent in Allegheny Co. bounded by lands of John Swearingen, Isaac Charles and, Nathaniel Hazen. (Allegheny Co. Deeds 6:300.)
On Aug. 3,1810 John Hazen and wife Rebecca of Bever Co. Pa. conveyed for $850 to Benjamin Vandermark of Allegheny Co. part of two tracts in Allegheny, one of which, called "Mancourt" (or "Harcourt") was granted April 4,1796 to Charles Morgan, who conveyed it Jan. 28,1797 to Nathaniel Hazen who in turn conveyed it on Nov. 20,1801 to John Hazen: the other was granted May 31,1788 to James Blackstone who conveyed it March 17,1791 to Isaac Charles who in turn Conveyed it Feb. 28,1797 to John Hazen. On Sept. 24,1834 John Hazen and wife Rebecca of Beaver Co. conveyed to James Hazen, a 20 acre portion of the Isaac Hazen patent for $200. (Beaver Co. Deeds, O:223.)
On Oct. 25,1834 John Hazen and wife Rebecca of North Sewickley conveyed for $900 to Conrad Fisher 60 acres in North Sewickley, being part of a tract containing 400 acres on Conequenessing Creek, adjoining lands of Nathaniel Pettit, formerly belonging to Washington Academy and others. It was land upon which Henry Kuykendall made an actual settlement and for which he afterwards purchased a warrant from Benjamin Crew and for which he obtained a patent from the Commonwealth. Henry Kuykendall sold one-half of the tract to Daniel Kuykendall, who sold 60 acres to William Kuykendall. William Kuykendall and Ezekiel Jones sold to John Hazen May 10,1810. (Ibid, M:194.)
On April 1,1835 John Hazen and wife Rebecca of Beaver Co. conveyed to James Hazen 29 acres, part of the Isaac Hazen tract. (Ibid Q:224.)
On April 7,1835 James Hazen and John Hazen and wives Jerusa and Rebecca of Beaver Co. conveyed to Abraham Latschar 14 acres on Conequenessing Creek near mill dam, part of the Isaac Hazen patent. (Ibid. X:17.)
