Family stories indicate that when Minnie died, aged 6 months in 1880, Sarah Jane gave Jennie C. to her sister Minerva, to raise, because Sarah Jane was poor and was raising a big family alone and Minerva was dispondent over the loss of Minnie. Jennie wasn't told of this arrangement for many years.
