Notes for Mabel Emma (Spouse 1)
Mable was born in a log house in the heart of the forest - the house had a loft where the kids slept - a kitchen, 1 bedroom, livingroom - water was carried from a spring a ways from the house. Moved to Oregon summer of 1905 - lived with the Lansings until a house was found to rent. Lived there until the farm was bought. The farm house was built up off the ground. The pigs had run under the house so there were flea's everywhere. took 2 yr. to finally get rid of them. House had 4 rooms. square with each room equal. There was a shed attached to the back which was Fred's room. Mabel got her only spanking from her Dad because she told him she didn't have to go wash before she got up to the table, 2_ yr old. Very timid (SJS: I don't believe it) (Ed. please note This is aunt Mabel telling _her_ story) went to visit school when she was five and wet her pants because she was afraid to tell anyone she had to go. Fell out of the hay mow when she was 4 (in Wash.) When almost 10 she was given a little cup and saucer by a friend. She took it home and was really scolded by mother and was made to go back and return it; She never wanted to accept things from anyone because she was afraid her mother would make her give it back. Grace and Blanche were singing "Sweet Hour of Prayer" as Mabel was in her nightgown Kneeling in front of a chair (6 yr old) for a program at Summit Church. Married at 18. Lived on the Wallace farm - [uncle Elmer] working orchards. housewife - 4 children - active in church work - missions - loved to travel - quiet, reserved - always helping others - has cared for 63 foster children in her home [by Dec. 1979, and mostly after uncle Elmer died] plus numerous other drop ins. loved to help elderly people who have no one else to turn to (shops visits etc) had the Wilson stubborness but seldom surfaced - endured pain and feelings many times rather than bother anyone with her problems. Had sugar diabetes which was generally under control. Grace - Grandpa - C Frank - Marynette - Maxine [and Ralph Jr] all either had diabetes or were border line. Mabel remembered when her Dad was told to leave sugar alone he went out and bought honey to use instead. The Doctor caught up with him told him no way. Mabel, Wilfred & Ralph were left home alone while their Dad & Fred worked and their mother went east; [this episode is frequently mentioned but always left (for) another party to finish, as here] She said you could ask your Dad what happened. . .
